When preparing for the MD-101 exam, or any Microsoft exam, Microsoft Docs is a great source of information. It is such a vast repository of information however, finding the relevant content can sometimes be challenging.

One method I used when preparing for the MD-101 exam, as well as planning episodes for the Managing Modern Desktops (MD-101) course at ITProTV, is to use the exam objectives as a roadmap, and search for each topic on docs.microsoft.com. (Tip: use your google-fu and add site:docs.microsoft.com to your search).

Below are the MD-101 exam objectives, with links to the relative content from Microsoft Docs. This is not meant to be an all inclusive list, but a starting point. These links might take you to an overview page for a topic, but usually there are corresponding How-To or Quickstarts that you should look at as well.

Deploy and update operating systems (35-40%)

Plan and implement Windows 10 by using dynamic deployment
Plan and implement Windows 10 by using Windows Autopilot
Upgrade devices to Windows 10
Manage updates
Manage device authentication

Manage policies and profiles (25-30%)

Plan and implement co-management
Implement conditional access and compliance policies for devices
Configure device profiles
Manage user profiles

Manage and protect devices (20-25%)

Manage Windows Defender
Manage Intune device enrollment and inventory
Monitor devices

Manage apps and data (10-15%)

Hopefully you will find this information useful as you prepare to take the MD-101 exam. Don’t forget to check out the Managing Modern Desktops (MD-101) course at ITProTV.
